Cancun Mexico : Day Two

Photobucket

It's our first full day at Casa Commager, and we were ready to start off our vacation - officially.

Photobucket

Danny started his day by spying....

Photobucket

On some people who were picking up some drugs in the bay. Yeah. Interesting right?

Photobucket

We made it down to the beach and collected some seashells, only to find one of them was inhabited!

Photobucket

We named him George and set him free.

After the rescue mission, Aunt Mary took us to Mercado 28 in downtown Cancun. What it is is a huge market filled with Mexican crafts, souvenirs and places to eat. I was able to get some televera for Jessica, and Danny got a spooky Mayan mask. But as usual, we were looking for something to eat, as we had taken a shining to Mexican food.

We had a great lunch, Aunt Mary and I had a delicoius shrimp dish with tomatoes and mushrooms.

Photobucket

We were pretty happy about it.

Photobucket

Danny's lunch... well that was interesting.

Photobucket

And it had plenty of tentacles. I'm not the biggest fan of tentacles, but he seemed to love it.

Photobucket

I was also entertained by a white pigeon. We all know I'm a fan of pigeons.

Photobucket

We also so a cartoon character.

From Mercado 28 Aunt Mary drove us to her friend Miguel's new sandwich shop.

Photobucket

He offered us some chicarones, which is a fancy name for pork rinds along with some really fucking spicy salsa. I left that one alone.

Photobucket

The real Cancun we drove through was pretty sad, expected, but sad. It was amazing to see how these people really lived but at the same time know how all the others in the hotel zone are living on vacation. It's sickening.

Photobucket

Miguel had told us of some small Mayan ruins outside of the city, so we set off in the VW Beetle to see these small ruins.

Photobucket

We drove till the style of life changed to a very sparse area of a few beaches and a few homes. It was so different from what we had seen that day, the roads were actually situated very very close to the ocean.

Photobucket

Then we got to El Meco. El Meco is a nice little set of ruins that is very cheap to get into - a mere 20 pesos a person, and you can still walk on many of the ruins.

I was impressed with some of the flowers and the trees, but what was really amazing....

Was the ruins itself.

Photobucket

Danny also liked that he could touch them.

We ended up back that night at the Embacadero with Aunt Mary and Erica, our waitress. It was a great way to end the day.

Cancun is a lot of fun! We haven't been to the city itself in about 7 years, but we've been through the airport recently. I love the Yucatan, & we'll be there in just a little over a week on a cruise!

No thanks to the tentacles...
